Danny Ainge: Former NBA Player and Executive

Early Life and Career

Daniel Ray Ainge (born March 17, 1959) is a retired American professional basketball player and former executive. He played 14 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, and Sacramento Kings.

NBA Draft

Ainge was drafted by the Boston Celtics with the 31st overall pick in the second round of the 1981 NBA Draft. He played seven seasons with the Celtics, helping the team win two NBA championships (1984, 1986).

After leaving the Celtics, Ainge played for the Suns, Trail Blazers, and Kings before retiring in 1995. He finished his NBA career with averages of 10.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.

Post-Playing Career

Following his playing career, Ainge worked as an executive for the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors. He served as the Celtics' president of basketball operations from 2003 to 2021, during which time the team won the NBA championship in 2008.
